My fun news is that I accidentally became a product owner for my programme!
We had a few challenges and I was asked by leadership to take on the role to help navigate through the next wee while.
Things I’ve already learnt:
- Holy moly it is way easier to just execute on decisions rather than influence! POs have it EASY and I have throughly enjoyed saying “um, yeah, no, we aren’t doing that soz!”

- Delegation is a skill that we don’t practice enough as BAs (or outcomes engineers for that matter). My skills are rusty!
- Operating within the formal hierarchy brings it’s own challenges – different stakeholders with different toes to step on. Confirmed why I personally like working outside the “managerial class” … there’s more freedom in the in-between spaces …
- And last but not least – yes – I stand by my claim that product ownership is a subset of business analysis!
This is why I’ve been so busy and less active here … Will return to being chatty I promise ![]()
