Sharing this here for anyone keen to sharpen their BA toolkit and have a bit of a refresh. Laura Brandenburg’s new book The Value-Driven Business Analyst just opened for Kindle pre-orders — and it’s only $2.99 USD at the moment.

Some of you will remember her first book, it was practically a rite of passage when I retrained. I still remember my cohort passing it around like gold. Fast forward four years, and many of us are now in careers we love, so I jumped at the chance to be part of the first readers circle for this new one.

What it’s about:

  • Reframes business analysis as a mindset and repeatable skillset — not just a role or project function
  • Explains how to anchor your mahi in real business value and outcomes
  • Gives practical techniques and tools you can apply in agile, product, ops, and change contexts
  • Speaks directly to the realities of modern BA work, including how to collaborate with AI tools effectively

AI + BA:

One of the newer and more timely threads in the book is how BAs can responsibly and strategically use AI to support our mahi, without losing our critical thinking or judgment. It’s not about automating ourselves out of relevance, but about using AI to:

One takeaway that really resonated with me:

Even when we’re working reactively or under pressure, the structure and mindset of business analysis is something we can return to.
We can create alignment, reduce confusion, and keep people focused on what actually matters.
